| Ecological
risk assessments investigate the risk to ecological systems
not considered in traditional human health risk
assessments. Food webs can be complex consisting of many
species that interact across several trophic levels. The
effects of compounds of potential concern (COPCs) on these
ecosystems are of importance not only to the species
considered in a studied food web, but also to humans who are
ultimately tied to the world's ecosystems.
The following
sections provide further details and links to documents and
software that contain extensive methodologies for ecological risk assessments, including special provisions for handling
mercury. |

| The
U.S. EPA-OSW Screening Level Ecological Risk Assessment
Protocol (SLERAP) is an advanced Human Health Risk Assessment guidance
containing complete coverage on analytical procedures and
extensive COPC data. It also provides several standard
food webs as a basis, which can be modified for a particular
study area.
The complete
guidance can be found on our SLERAP
PDFs page. |
